OpenAI launches GPT Store, introduces ChatGPT Team tier
The app marketplace for custom chatbots opens to paid subscribers, while builder revenue and moderation questions linger.
OpenAI today opened the GPT Store, a marketplace for custom chatbots built on its GPT-4 and DALL-E 3 models, after a delay following the November leadership shakeup. The store, accessible via a new tab in the web ChatGPT client, features GPTs built by both OpenAI partners and the wider developer community, organized into categories like lifestyle, writing, research, programming, and education.
To access the store, users must subscribe to ChatGPT Plus, ChatGPT Enterprise, or the newly announced ChatGPT Team tier — a dedicated plan for small teams that launched today. Featured GPTs include a trail recommender from AllTrails, a code tutor from Khan Academy, and a content designer from Canva. All are free for now, though OpenAI says it plans to launch a builder revenue program in Q1, with U.S. developers earning income based on user engagement.
The company has not responded as of publication time. OpenAI says developers must verify their profiles and submit GPTs to a review system that combines human and automated review.
Kyle Wiggers reports the store had been delayed due to November's leadership shakeup, and notes the GPTs could 'kill consultancies whose business models revolve around building what are essentially GPTs for customers.'

The GPT Store quickly became a sprawling bazaar of low-effort chatbots, and OpenAI's revenue-sharing program launched later in Q1 2024 with vague metrics, disappointing many builders. By mid-2026, the store remains a niche feature, far from the 'app store moment' some predicted.
